Parachutes

Today students designed a parachute from scratch to have the longest hang time. Students used the EDP to design a parachute out of everyday items.  We tested their designs on the playground.

Gingerbread Houses

Today students designed and decorated their own gingerbread houses with milk cartons, graham crackers, frosting, and all sorts of candies.

Catapults

Today, students learned about simple machines. They built a catapult and launched items. 

October 9th & 18th 

 Pumpkin Drop 

Students worked on their Pumpkin protection devices (PPD) for 2 weeks.  They used the Engineering Design Process to complete their box.

I Can Do Hard Things

 Today the students learned about a growth mindset by participating in a challenge to move their fuzzy friend from one spot to another without using their hands!

Today, students were challenged with making the longest paper chain with limited supplies and limited time.

Today we explored what effects ramps have on balls and what happens when two objects collide.

2-28-23 Butterfly Release

It's time to say goodbye to our butterflies!  Their adult lifespan is on 2-4 weeks.  Each student was able to hold a butterfly on their finger!

3-23-23  Butterflies

Today we discovered our butterflies have emerged!  We learned about how to care for our butterflies.  We provided orange slices and artificial flowers with sugar water for them to eat.

3-6-23 Darkling Beetles

Today we discovered some of us had Darkling Beetles, the adult form of the mealworm.  We continue to observe our hungry, hungry caterpillars!

Painted Ladies

Today, we were introduced to a new organism, the painted lady caterpillar.  We will study the larvae as they eat and grow. we will observe the many changes that will occur over the next few weeks. 

2-14-22  Mealworms Life Cycle

Today, we continued to observe our mealworms.   Several have molted, or shed their exoskeleton to grow.  We have had one to pupate and change into a new stage.  It's a pupa and will be dormant for a while before it turns into its adult form!!

2-6-23 Insects:

 an Introduction to Mealworms

Today we learned about insects!!  We were introduced to mealworms, which are insects.  We will closely watch these animals for the next few weeks.

1-27-23   Animal Classification & Invertebrates

Today we learned about classification. We classified objects into different groups depending on their properties.  We learned that animals are classified into  two main groups: Vertebrates and Invertebrates.  We looked closely at invertebrates and even drew a picture of one.

1-09-23    What's in the Bag?

Today we investigated magnets!  We discovered what properties they have and what they are attracted to.

12-12-22  Is toothpaste a liquid or a solid?

Today we investigated if toothpaste was a liquid or a solid.  What do you think?

8-19-22  Today we got to use the engineering design process to make name plates  to solve the problem of Mrs. Jones not knowing our names.  We tested our creation and made changes to improve it! 

5-16-22  Today, we investigated how wheels and axles work together to create a system. 

3-21-22 Butterfly Release!!!  We were sad to say goodbye to our Painted Lady friends!

Our painted lady caterpillars have been growing so much and have even changed!!

10-19-21 We were amazed by air pressure  demonstrations!

9-20-21  Today, We made pinwheels and explored how they help us determine how fast the wind is blowing!

Farewell to our Butterflies!

It was a sad day, but we are happy that our butterflies are free!!

We are studying mealworms life stages.  We have seen larva,             (mealworms), pupas, and adult (Darkling Beetles)
