CavPlex Convergence Media is a nationally acclaimed magnet program at Richland Northeast High focused on hyperlocal journalism and literary expression. Convergence students cover stories, trends, and events at Richland Northeast with in-depth reporting focused on fairness and community. CavPlex scholars have an opportunity to attend state, regional, and national journalism conferences where they can reflect on their learning and add new skills.
Students have the opportunity to individualize their experiences in CavPlex around custom interests like design, the arts, sports, videography, podcasting, and more. CavPlex Journalism first-years and sophomores receive college preparatory credit for successful participation, while juniors and seniors earn honors credit. Convergence Media seniors complete a capstone project at the end of their program designed to prepare them for college and career success.
CavPlex is a multiple-time winner of the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Award for news broadcasts and its students have received top awards from the Southern Intercollegiate Press Association for contributions in the yearbook, literary magazine, online news, and broadcast categories.
