One of the particular strengths of AVID Schoolwide Culture at our school is the intentional effort to create a college- and career-going atmosphere throughout the campus. Every classroom features a college corner that showcases college information, student goals, and career connections, helping to keep postsecondary readiness visible and relevant. Additionally, teachers display banners outside their classrooms that highlight their own educational journeys, allowing students to see real-life examples of diverse college and career paths. The school is filled with college and career-themed murals and bulletin boards that reinforce high expectations and inspire students to think about their futures. This strong visual messaging is supported by a culture in which students genuinely believe that teachers and staff expect them to attend college or enter the career force after graduation. Furthermore, through field studies and partnerships with community organizations, students gain meaningful exposure to colleges and various career fields, which helps them envision and plan their postsecondary paths. Together, these elements create a positive and empowering schoolwide culture where college and career readiness is not just encouraged—it is expected and celebrated. 

While our AVID Schoolwide Culture is strong and clearly promotes college and career readiness, there are areas that offer room for growth. One area is increasing student voice and ownership in shaping the school’s college and career culture. While students are surrounded by encouraging visuals and messaging, there are fewer opportunities for them to actively contribute to or lead college- and career-readiness initiatives. To address this area in our AVID site goals and school improvement plan, we could: Create more student-led initiatives such as college clubs, peer mentoring, or student-planned career days to increase ownership and engagement. Establish expectations and provide support for maintaining updated, engaging, and culturally inclusive college and career corners across classrooms. Integrate student feedback into the development of bulletin boards, murals, and field study experiences to ensure they resonate with diverse student goals. By empowering students and improving consistency and relevance in college and career messaging, we can strengthen our schoolwide culture and deepen its impact on students' future planning.
