Assistive Technology for Students with Learning Disabilities
Tammy Wallace
Assistive technology (AT) is available to help individuals with many types of disabilities — from cognitive problems to physical impairment. The use of technology to enhance learning is an effective approach for many children. Students with learning disabilities often experience greater success when they are allowed to use their abilities (strengths) to work around their disabilities (challenges). AT tools combine the best of both of these practices.
Participants will learn about:
1. Assistive technology for individuals with learning disabilities.
2. The types of learning problems assistive technology will address.
3. Available assistive technology tools that are available.
4. The programs and services of the SC Assistive Technology Program.

Addressing Post-COVID-19 Challenges with Professional Development
Mobile Mind
The pandemic and the abrupt shift to distance learning left students behind academically and, just as significant, socially and emotionally. Research shows that students could have lost up to 12 months of learning by summer 2021, bringing new challenges to teachers, administration, and support staff. "The new normal" is that "normal" no longer exists, as needs and requirements for students and teachers are frequently changing. Our education system must adapt to an agile approach to teaching and learning. There is no quick fix, rather a long-term, sustainable solution: professional development.
MobileMind's session will detail how competency-based, agile professional learning can not only accelerate student learning but mitigate teacher skill regression as well. Learn how personalized, asynchronous micro-learning prepares teachers and staff to effectively address the post-COVID challenges schools face and the significance of agile PD when it comes to teacher growth and student achievement.
