Business Studies students have the opportunity to embark on a course that focuses on business activity and the way in which businesses interact with their external environment. Throughout the course, students will learn how to identify and analyse business problems in a number of contexts. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge to real-world business situations whenever possible. The course also gives students real-world skills, such as knowledge of recruitment and selection process.
A good standard of English comprehension skills is required to succeed in the course as exams are case study based. You will learn a lot of new subject-specific vocabulary that you will be expected to use in your written responses. English writing ability and the ability to construct essay style responses is a key skill for the course. Numeracy skills will be developed and assessed as students will learn to read and interpret data tables and charts and analyse these tables to identify and recommend solutions to business issues. Being able to complete percentage-based calculations and understanding how to use formulas to analyse the significance of numerical data sets are important skills for success in the course.
