Directions to Campus
By Plane:
Houston has two airports: William P. Hobby (HOU), 11 miles to the south of campus and George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), 24 miles to the north. Intercontinental is a hub of global travel. Hobby is a hub for regional, domestic travel. Together they offer 1,000 flights a day in and out of Houston.
Most major rental car companies have locations at both airports. SuperShuttle and taxis provide ground transportation services from both airports.
Driving Directions:
From North or South
1. Those approaching Houston on I-45 North or I-45 South should take the US 59 south exit. From US 59 south, take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset and an immediate left on Main Street. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
2. Those approaching Houston from the north on US 59 (heading south) should take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset and an immediate left on Main Street. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
3. Those approaching Houston from the south on US 59 (heading north) should exit at Main Street, stay in the right lane and turn right (south) on Main. Follow Main until you pass the light at Sunset Boulevard. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
From East or West
1. Those approaching Houston from the west on I-10 East should take 610 South to 59 North and exit at Greenbriar. Stay on the frontage road, turn right (south) on Greenbriar. Follow Greenbriar to the light at Rice Boulevard. Turn left on Rice Boulevard. Stay on Rice Boulevard until it becomes Sunset. Turn right on Main Street and take an immediate right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
2. Those approaching Houston from the east on I-10 West should take the US 59 South exit. From US 59 South, take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset Boulevard and an immediate left on Main Street. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
3. Those approaching Houston from the northwest on 290 should take 610 South to 59 North and exit at Main Street, stay in the right lane and turn right (south) on Main. Follow Main until you pass the light at Sunset Boulevard. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
METRO Bus and Rail
The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) provides bus and rail service from destinations around Houston.
There is a METRORail stop across the street from the main entrance of the Rice campus. The rail line travels up and down Main Street, serving downtown, the Texas Medical Center and Reliant Park.
Parking and Accessibility
Parking
Visitor parking is available in various lots across campus. A fee is required to park on campus, and fees may vary at each parking lot. Visitor parking lots only accept credit or debit cards. Campus Entrance 1 and Entrance 2, located along Main Street, are the closest entrances to Lovett Hall and the Office of Admission. We recommend using Google Maps to locate an exact parking lot or building.
