FIELD TRIP PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT & ASSIGNMENT DIRECTIONS

WHAT ARE WE SEEING?

Your tour of the Holocaust Museum will be split into two parts. For part of the trip you will hear the first-hand testimony of a survivor of the Holocaust. For the other part, you will be given a tour of the museum where the docent leading the tour will explain the exhibits and talk about the history of the Holocaust.

As you walk around the museum be on the look out for the different artifacts noted below. You will need to TAKE PICTURES of these ARTIFACTS. You will use your pictures for your virtual field trip project.

The World That Was

This exhibit discusses Jewish communities and contributions before the war.

Question: What was everyday life like for Jewish people prior to the war?

Rise of Nazism

This exhibit describes the rise of Nazism and Hitler's racial government policies.

Question: How did Nazism begin? In what ways were Jews persecuted?

Onset of War/Ghettoization/Extermination

This exhibit documents further the Nazi war against Jews and how Jewish communities were broken apart and inhabitants were sent to ghettos or killed.

Question: How did things get to this level? Why didn't people stop what was going on?

Deportation & Extermination

This exhibit describes the process of Jews being deported from the ghettos to concentration camps.

Question: What did this process involve? What did the Jews go through in this phase of the Holocaust?

Labor/Concentration/Death Camps

This exhibit describes what life was like for those that were sent to concentration camps and weren't killed outright.

Question: What was life like for Jews in the concentration camps?

World Response, Resistance, Rescue

This exhibit displays newspaper articles from the Holocaust era that told readers what was happening at the time.

Question: What was the public's response to these articles? Why would they respond that way?

Life After Liberation

This exhibit describes what life was like after Auschwitz became the first liberated concentration camp after January 27, 1945.

Question: What was life like for survivors? What did they do? Where did they go?

Tree of Testimony

This exhibit contains 70 screens that play through the 52,000 interviews recorded with survivors.

Question: Why is this exhibit important? Why is it important to collect the stories from survivors of the Holocaust?

Holocaust Monument/ Martyrs Memorial

This monument was created to honor the memory of the 6 million who were murdered between 1933 and 1945. This is a place where people can mourn those who were lost that have no grave.

Question: Do you feel like this memorial is impactful? Why or why not? Describe how it makes you feel.

Goldrich Family Foundation Children's Memorial

This memorial has 1.2 million holes of varying sizes to honor the children of different ages that were killed during the Holocaust. You can leave a note in one of the holes as a message to those that were lost, those who survived, or your experience or message for the future.

Question: How did this memorial make you feel? Did you leave a message? If so, what did it say?

Holocaust Survivor

Part of the tour you will have the honor to hear the first-hand testimony of a Holocaust survivor.

Question: Who's story did you hear? What did they tell you? Why was it important to hear their story?

You will use the pictures you've taken and the information you've learned to build a virtual tour that will be shared with other students around the world. You were blessed with the opportunity to go there in person and hear one of the last accounts of a Holocaust survivor, let's share why this is so important for all students to know about!

*Personally, I think Adobe Spark might be easiest for this assignment but use whichever platform you feel most comfortable with.

REQUIREMENTS:

TITLE: Come up with a catchy title connected to U.S. History & The Field Trip
Name, Teacher, & Period
PHOTOS: You need to add ALL the PHOTOS from the field trip scavenger hunt and add them to your video virtual tour (these must be your photos and not photos you find online as that would be copyright infringement, which is illegal)
Each photo Should be accompanied by a title
QUESTIONS: You will choose 10 of the photos to answer the questions associated with the photos (see above). Narrate your responses with the appropriate picture
SUBMIT: Submit the video (or link to finished product) through the assignment in Google Classroom

FINISHED PRODUCTS

The finished products will be added to the pages via the links below. Click on any period to view yours or your peers virtual tours. These will be shared with different classrooms around the world and students will be recording questions for you based on your tours so be ready to discuss with them : )
