Attendance

Absences can add up. Missing just two days each month puts students at risk of falling behind.

We realize that some absences are for health or other reasons. Please continue to consult with our health office should you need to keep your child home.

When students are absent 2 or more days a month (adding up to a total of 18 days or over the school year) they can fall far behind in what they learn. Attending school has a huge impact on student success, and both excused and unexcused absences means missing classroom learning time.

Please let us know how we can best support you and your children, so that they can show up for school on time every day!

Some Tips for Attendance:

  • Make sure your child keeps a regular bedtime and establishes a morning routine.

  • Turn off all electronics including TVs, phones, and tablets at bedtime.

  • Make sure clothes and backpacks are ready to go the night before.

  • Check with our school nurse or office staff if you are unsure about when to keep your child at home due to illness.

  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.

  • Talk to your teachers and counselors for guidance if your child feels anxious about going to school.

  • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

Please be sure that you child follows up with their teacher(s) to make a plan for getting caught up with any missed work or assignments.

Counselors can offer assistance to addressing barriers to student's attendance. Please reach out one of the counselors if you are facing any transportation issues, health concerns, or other barriers to attending school consistently and on time.
