Economics is the study of how individuals and organizations use their resources to gain targeted incentives. This class will apply economic concepts to daily scenarios that provide students with a more detailed understanding of their immediate world including topics such as economic philosophies, business structures, fraud, the stock market, careers, real estate, taxes, federal/local budgets, current political debates, global trade, poverty, and the Crash of 2008. If time permits applied economic concepts will also be explored such as the economics of happiness, death, sports, the music industry, etc. The goal of this course is to give students the theoretical tools necessary to investigate the causes of our economic problems, ask the right questions, and be able to judge for themselves the implications of proposed solutions while analyzing current issues and events.
