This introductory course on abnormal psychology will provide an examination of various psychological disorders as well as theoretical, clinical, and experimental perspectives of the study of psychopathology. Emphasis is on terminology, classification, etiology, assessment, and treatment of major disorders. Upon completion, students will be able to distinguish between normal and abnormal behavior patterns as well as demonstrate knowledge of etiology, symptoms, and therapeutic techniques. The course will explore research methodology, critical thinking, and analytic writing through case studies and will include an independent research project on a specific disorder.
