This course focuses on scientific skills such as critical thinking, developing and using models, mathematical and computational thinking, planning and conducting investigations, and supporting arguments with evidence. Topics of interest include, earth system processes and its formation in the solar system, natural and human impacts on climate, mechanical and electrical forces, motion, and the role of energy in our world. This course includes a focus of applying basic algebra to science concepts. The approach to the material will be through demonstrations, inquiry activities, experimentation, and projects, supplemented by lecture and discussion. To be successful, students must have excellent organizational, time management, and study skills. Students must be highly motivated, self-directed learners who are willing to develop their own questions, and persevere through challenging problems.
