This full-year course is designed to enable the highly motivated student to build a strong foundation in accounting theory, which can be used in a business career or as a basis for a business major in a post-secondary institution. The course will enable students:  to use the terminology relating to the accounting process; to maintain a complete set of accounting records for a sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation; to prepare and interpret financial statements, both manually and through the use of automated accounting software; and to utilize accounting data for managerial decisions. Students (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors ONLY) will have the option to apply for three (3) semester hours of college credit through CT State Community College (Accounting 113: Financial Accounting). The overall curriculum and expectations are in alignment with CT State Community College requirements including the exam. Students (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors ONLY) will have the option to apply for three (3) semester hours of college credit through Manchester Community College (Accounting 113: Financial Accounting). The overall curriculum and expectations are in alignment with MCC requirements including the MCC exam. Students are encouraged, but not required, to work in the RHAM High School store for course extra credit.  Accounting students will be encouraged, but not required, to be participating members of the DECA Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship Association. Eligible business students are encouraged to solicit membership in the RHAM High School chapter of the National Business Honor Society.
