How do you turn an idea into a business? This course is designed to allow students to explore and develop an entrepreneurial mindset. In doing so, students will be challenged to identify and develop their personal and professional strengths, along with an innovative spirit. Class participants will build a basic knowledge of various entrepreneurial ventures and create a profitable or non-profit business. A variety of technologies will be used to expose students to resources and application of business principles for starting, operating and maintaining a business. Professional communication skills, problem-solving, ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills (Shark Tank style) are developed in this course to prepare students to be college and career ready. Employability skills are integrated into activities, tasks, and projects to demonstrate the skills required by business and industry. Project-based learning and experiential classroom activities will further provide students the opportunity to solve complex problems, recognize opportunity and understand the value of assessing and taking calculated risks. Students are encouraged, but not required, to work in the RHAM High School store for course extra credit and resume enhancement. Students are encouraged, but not required, to be participating members of the DECA Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship Association. The areas of business covered in this course are designed for the college and career bound student. Eligible business students are encouraged to solicit membership in the RHAM High School chapter of the National Business Honor Society.
