The Unpaid Experiential Learning Program is a course that students may take to gain experience through an internship. The program provides students with occupational experience, the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-life situations, and the opportunity for students to explore careers they may want to pursue for their future. If enrolled in the course, students will intern (work in industry) during part of some school days. The Unpaid Experiential Learning Program is a joint venture between the Connecticut State Department of Education and the Connecticut State Department of Labor which creates opportunities for Connecticut schools to provide unpaid work experiences for their students that would not otherwise be available. Students will have designated periods which they will be working either inside or outside of the building. In addition, they will meet with a classroom teacher who will be the mentor for the student. Students must be at least 16 years of age to participate in the program and have their own transportation if working off-site from RHAM High School. For the 24-25 school year opportunities for an internship in Culinary and Food Service will be available through this course.
