Students will be introduced to wheel throwing and advanced handbuilding techniques as an introduction to historical periods; techniques and design in ceramics from different cultures. Students will be encouraged to develop a portfolio, possibly choosing a technique to focus on to create more challenging assignments in clay in order to gain a higher level of expertise. Students may explore advanced finishing techniques or mixed media. Students will be required to maintain a sketchbook and complete writing assignments for the course. Students attaining a B or better in this class are eligible to take Honors Art- 3D or AP 3D Art & Design.
PENDING APPROVAL-- Students may earn three (3) college credits for (ECSU Art 217: Ceramics) through Eastern Connecticut State University if a “C” or better is earned in the course. Students must register for this opportunity by the deadline and are responsible for all fees. Upon successful completion of the course, students can request a transcript, and credits may be transferable to other institutions.
