Students will be encouraged to develop a portfolio, possibly focusing on a media of choice and to attempt more challenging assignments and sculpture techniques in order to gain a high level of expertise. Advanced carving, mixed media, large scale and environmental sculpture techniques may also be explored. Students will research sculptural techniques and styles used by contemporary artists as well as different cultures throughout history. Students will be required to maintain a sketchbook and complete writing assignments for the course. Students attaining a B or better in this class are eligible to take Honors Art - 3D and AP 3D Art & Design. This course is strongly recommended for students planning to submit an art portfolio to colleges.
