Computing and Creative Industries / Length: 1 Semester

Course Content

This course is designed for students wishing to enter the multimedia industry as a professional career, with a particular focus on visually intense media such as videos and game production. Students will develop advanced Photoshop skills, understanding in project management, video production and game development. The main project is the development of a real multimedia artefact such as a video (e.g. music clip), a functioning game or app in Unreal Engine, or a visual novel created in Ren’py. 

This course includes:

Assessment

Students are required to demonstrate evidence of their learning through skills and applications tasks, and a design folio and project/s.

Additional Details

• Completion of Year 10 Computing and Creative Industries to a high standard is required. 

• Students need to provide their own 16 or 32GB USB memory stick or hard drive.

Food and Hospitality A / Length: Semester or Full Year

Course Content

The food and hospitality industry is dynamic and changing. Students will focus on trends in hospitality, skills and abilities related to the industry, food preparation and presentation, small group catering, interpersonal skills and customer relations. Students will identify sectors within the hospitality industry and design industry-standard dishes.

Assessment

The performance standards that students will be assessed against are:

Each assessment type will have a weighting of 25% and four assessments will be undertaken in this subject.

Students will focus on skills and abilities related to the industry; covering topics about food labelling, food preparation, preservation and presentation. In this course there will also be a group task, which will enhance students interpersonal skills and customer relations.

The hospitality industry is always evolving and transforming. In this course, students will learn about the latest developments in the hospitality sector, as well as the essential skills and qualities needed to excel in this industry. They will explore various aspects such as cooking and serving food, organising a small event and  communicating effectively with others. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to investigate a specific area of the hospitality industry and create dishes that meet professional standards.

Innovators Academy - STEM / Length: 1 Semester 

Course Content

The course is focused on problem and inquiry-based learning where students will apply science, mathematical and technology theory to everyday problems in order to engineer innovative design solutions. Design challenges are student led and supportive of students improving perseverance, self-management and self-confidence. The course begins with a focus on teamwork and communication skills whilst developing students' critical and creative thinking skills, to prepare them for the coming tasks. These tasks will be derived from individually selected real-world problems/issues. Students will work collaboratively in teams to realise solutions to the problems or issues that they have identified. The intended outcome is that STEM participants will be successful, confident and creative independent learners as well as active and informed citizens.

Assessment

Is in accordance with the Australian Curriculum, with a specific focus on the curriculum’s general capabilities, and structured to suit SACE Integrated Learning. Assessment is based on 3 different pieces: 

• Practical enquiry (40%)

• Personal endeavour (30%) 

• Connections task (30%)

Additional Details

• An interest in STEM or science is required; preference will be given to students with experience in STEM class/Innovators Academy in Years 8-10.

Metalwork / Length: 1 Semester

Course Content

In this course students will have full access to the Design and Technology metal workshops. Students will analyse and test different materials and processes before moving on to the design process. Students will then use their critical and creative abilities to design and then produce their own individual product.

• There are no prerequisites for this course but completion of Metalwork at Year 10 would be advantageous.

Photography / Length: 1 Semester 

Course Content

Photography is a one-semester unit focusing on the use of digital cameras whilst taking landscape, portrait and macro photographs. Students will use Adobe Photoshop computer programs to manipulate, edit and print their work. Students will use Adobe Photoshop computer programs to manipulate, edit and print their work. Students would benefit from using their own camera.

Assessment

• Maintain a folio of work along with associated technical reports on processes and techniques required along with an evaluation of the work produced.

Robotics and Electronics / Length: 1 Semester 

Course Content

This course has a focus on electronic engineering and includes:

• Investigating: safety, electronic components, circuit operation

• Planning: circuit drawing, PCB design

• Component selection and calculations

• Creating: production of projects with suitable case

• Evaluation: reflection and analysis of products and processes

Assessment

• Assessment is in accordance with the SACE and run under the Robotics and Electronics Learning and Assessment Plan.

Additional Details

• Successful completion of Year 10 Robotics and Electronics is highly desirable. Students must have strength in applied mathematics. 

• The cost to complete Year 11 Robotics and Electronics is $75, which contributes to specialised project materials and equipment. A commitment to pay will be required before commencing the course.

Workplace Practices / Length: 1 Semester

Course Content

In Workplace Practices, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the nature, type and structure of the workplace. They learn about the changing nature of work, industrial relations, legislation, safe and sustainable workplace practices and local, national and global issues in an industry and workplace context. Students can undertake learning in the workplace and develop and reflect on their capabilities, interests and aspirations. The focus capabilities for this subject are personal development, work and learning. Focus areas of study include:

• Industry

• Vocational learning

• Vocation Education and Training (VET)

Topics include:

• Future trends in the world of work

• The value of unpaid work to society

• Workers’ rights and responsibilities

• Career planning

• Negotiated topics

• Performance in the workplace: minimum 25 hours work experience

• The subject may include the undertaking of accredited vocational education and training (VET).  Year 11 students who are undertaking a VET course need to select Stage 2 Workplace Practices as a full year subject.
