Mullan's central claim is that all therapy is and always has been inherently political. The mental health field did not develop in a vacuum. It was built within colonial structures, and those structures shaped what gets called "disordered," who gets to define health, and which communities bear the weight of being pathologized. Mullan argues this is not neutrality. It is a replication of harm.
Failing to name this sentences future generations to repeating the same cycles of pain.
