School Organizations

Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be at least members of the tenth grade class. 

To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Founders Classical Academy of Flower Mound.

Candidates eligible for election to the chapter shall have a minimum unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.70 on a 4.0 scale in High School classes. 

Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, and character.

The selection of members to this chapter shall be by a majority vote of the faculty council which consists of five faculty members appointed by the headmaster. The chapter adviser shall be the sixth, non-voting, ex officio member of the faculty council.

The selection of active members shall be held in the fall semester of each year. 

Prior to the final selection, the following shall occur:

• Students’ academic records shall be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility.

• All students who are eligible scholastically (i.e., candidates) shall be notified and asked to complete and submit the candidate information form for further consideration. 

• The faculty council shall review the candidate information forms, faculty input, and other relevant information to determine those who fully meet the selection criteria for membership.

• Leadership and Service. Leadership roles and service hours shall be verified by a supervisor or adult sponsor.

• Character: Each student shall submit two brief letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, or community leaders. Additionally, faculty members shall also be asked to provide input regarding the character of each candidate as demonstrated by the correlation between their actions and the virtues of the school. 

Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony.

An active member of the National Honor Society who transfers from this school will be given an official letter indicating the status of his/her membership.

An active member of the National Honor Society who transfers to this school will be automatically accepted for membership in this chapter. The faculty council shall grant to the transferring member one semester to attain the membership requirements and, thereafter, this member must maintain those requirements for this chapter in order to retain his/her membership.

Members shall be expected to practice and uphold the virtues that distinguish them as such at all times. If a member is determined to have acted in a manner contrary to these virtues or fails to maintain academic standards, he or she shall be subject to discipline or dismissal.

Members shall also attend chapter meetings and participate in individual and chapter service projects.

Members elected as chapter officers or appointed as committee chairpersons shall be expected to perform the requisite duties to fulfill their responsibilities. 

Annual dues for this chapter shall be $20. Dues will be payable to the chapter within 30 days of induction for new members. For returning members, dues will be payable on the first chapter meeting of the academic year.

• Complete the membership form

• Be approved by Executive committee and Faculty Advisor

• Practice exemplary conduct

• Attend all meetings and notify when unable

• Have no more than three behavioral demerits or five tardy demerits per quarter 

• Pass all classes by the end of the grading period

Officer Qualifications:

• To run for an executive position, the student is required to hold membership in the general assembly of the Student Council for at least one semester prior to running

• Candidates must meet all the requirements of a general Student Council Member at the time of running

• Only incoming 11th and 12th graders may be elected to the positions of President and Vice-President

• Incoming 9-12th graders may run for all other Executive Officer positions excluding president and vice president

Voting:

• The general student body will elect the positions of President and Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer

• Position of Publisher will be elected within the Executive Council

• The general student body of each independent grade will elect the positions of Male and Female Representative

Election Procedure:

• Elections and appointments of Executive and Representative positions are to be held for next year during the current school year’s spring, with candidates being chosen in May.

• The newly elected Executives and Representative are to shadow the current executives until they assume their duties in August. 

• If the newly appointed representative is unable to fulfill his or her duties then the runner-up in the election will step into the role.

Purpose: Unify the school; create a positive school culture; aid administration; cultivate appreciation for, understanding of, and participation in democracy and classical education; represent the interests of the student body and best interest of the school; encourage participation and involvement in school activities and spirit

Duties: Investigating, discussing, and reporting issues and concerns of the student body to faculty and Council members; organizing, sponsoring, and overseeing school wide events; fundraising and spending to sponsor said events and other school needs; acting as formal representatives of the student body

Designated Duties of Members of the Student Council

President:

• Work closely with the Administration to plan all student council activities

• Provide the Student Council with direction and vision

• Delegate available Council members to necessary duties based on their strengths and weaknesses

• Work with Executive Council to compose meeting agendas

• Give assistance, guidance, reprimand, and praise when appropriate

• Maintain frequent contact with faculty and administrators

• Be a spokesperson for the student council to students, faculty, and Headmaster

• With the student council advisor, prepare evaluations of council activities, meetings, goals, and evaluations for officers and representatives once a semester

• Work with Executive Council in setting and achieving goals

• Meet deadlines and motivate the Council

Vice President:

• Work closely with the student council president and administration to plan all student council activities and meetings

• Be prepared to serve as the President and assume his/her duties whenever necessary

• Help lead the executive team in planning council meetings and agendas

• Communicate with committees through Committee Chairs and serve as a liaison to the Student Council

• Give assistance, guidance, and praise when appropriate

• Manage representative communication,rewards,probation, records,etc.

• Facilitate group discussion by summarizing, clarifying, etc.

• When asked, represent the Student Council at school, faculty, and community meetings

Treasurer:

• Work closely with the student council president and Administration to plan and budget all student council activities

• Keep accurate, complete, and up-to-date records of all student council monies

• Approve/decline spending requests for amounts deemed appropriate by the yearly administration

• Review and evaluate budget requests for committee projects by their cost and potential benefit to the council/school and make recommendations for future activities

• Assist in preparing the budget, present proposed budget to executive board for approval, and help explain budgetary items to the council membership

• Prepare a quarterly financial report for meetings of the council

• Coordinate fundraising efforts

Secretary:

• Come prepared to every meeting with reference materials (copy of the constitution and bylaws, minutes from previous meetings, lists of board members, board reports, etc.)

• Take roll of attendees at meetings, either written or verbal, and keep records of who attended

• Take minutes of the proceedings of all student council meetings

• Prepare and make public minutes

• Maintain organized council files including minutes and agendas

• Alert members to important correspondence

• Be responsible for coordinating all council reports (boards, student body, administration, faculty, etc.)

• Oversee and update Student Council directory

• Update meetings on calendar

Committee Chairs:

• Oversee and run sub committees

• Report to Vice-President

• Conduct external meetings with individual committees when necessary

• Update the Council of the project’s progress within committee

Representatives:

• Bring the interests of the designated student section to the Council

• Be in communication with Vice President

• Propose motions concerning the interest of one’s class

• Communicate with one’s class concerning Student Council events and vice versa

• Attend all representative meetings

• Be a proper representative of Student Council and the school, upholding all rules and conducting oneself virtuously
