Antje Damm is a children's book author and illustrator from Germany who uses mixed media to create scenes for her 3D illustrations for her books.
For practice, she creates little worlds inside of matchboxes using paper and cardboard.
Each 3D design overlapps flat material to create a setting with a background, middle ground and foreground.
A setting is the space or place depicted in a work of art.
What can you see in the setting's foreground, middle-ground, and background of each piece? How do you think she layered these together?
We're making our own "Little World Boxes" inspired by Antje Damm. We are using cardstock, construction paper, markers, scissors and glue.
Here are our goals:
To complete a brainstorming/plan paper for The Little World Box.
To create a setting that is easy to see in the box.
To use overlapping to communicate my setting / place in the box.
To use at least one pop-up strategy to communicate the difference between background, middle-ground, and foreground objects in the Little World Box.
I am reflective about my Little World Box
I can visually communicate my understanding of a setting using overlapping, and pop-up strategies to create a “Little World Box”
