In the cafeteria, waste is sorted into recyclable waste, general waste, and food scraps. The recyclable materials are sold to private companies, while a portion of the food scraps is donated to local farmers to be used as raw materials for reducing animal feed costs, making compost (soil amendments), and some are utilized as substrates for breeding Black Soldier Fly (BSF) protein.
