The importance of sleep
Did you know that a primary school aged child requires 9-12 hours sleep? This means that if your child gets up at 7am they would need to be asleep by 7pm! A good sleep routine is paramount in ensuring healthy sleep. A few tips are:
limit caffeine
stop the use of screens an hour before bed
Go to bed and get up at the same time.
If you would like some help with sleep then either Kate or Miss McCulloch are here to support you and your child.
Emotional Regulation
Emotional regulation can be difficult for children. The part of the brain that controls reasoning is not completely developed until 25! However, the part of our brain that sends us into fight or flight mode is active from birth. There are ways that we can help children improve their ability to regulate their emotions. It could be as simple as naming the emotion that helps children understand them. Miss McCulloch and Kate are here to help and there are some useful links at the bottom of the page.
Bereavement and Loss
Losing someone special is difficult for children and they grieve as much as adults. However, children are likely to grieve in a different way. Their understanding and vocabulary is not as developed so they might show their emotions through behaviour. Some children may not seem to react as they don't fully understand death. Whatever the reaction, there are people who can help and advice on how to support children. If you would like more advice and guidance just call in and see Kate or Miss McCulloch. There are also some useful links at the bottom of the page.
Let's Make Time!
Modern life is busy and it is easy to lose track of time and even of what is important. Gifting someone our time is one of the most precious gifts we can ever give. Especially to children! In a life that feels like a race try and remember to make time to spend together. Childhood goes so quickly and no-one has made a time machine to give us these years back yet. With all of this in mind, why not put that hoover away until tomorrow and MAKE TIME! Dig out the board games, go on a walk or read book. The activities are endless if you make the opportunities!
