When measuring a garage door, it’s important to be as accurate as possible to ensure our door and hardware will operate correctly. Keep your eye out for other obstructions such as; beams, trusses, shelving, etc, and record a measurement to the lowest part of the obstruction in addition to the standard measurements.
Record the follow measurements in INCHES
Door Opening Measurements
Opening Width
Opening Height Left
Opening Height Middle
Opening Height Right
Note: We measure the height in 3 places to look for a sloping header or uneven concrete. Additional PVC or larger bottom seal may be recommended.
Inside Hardware Measurements
Floor to Ceiling on Right & Left Side of opening
Floor to Ceiling in Center of opening
Note: If we do not have enough room for a standard torsion system by the drums/center plate (or lowest obstruction), we may need to use a Low Headroom Tracking system or consider building down the opening.
Opener Measurements
Floor to Opener Rail about 18” Back from Header
Floor to Opener Rail at Stop Bolt (by motor)
Can the Opener be moved up?
If Yes | How many inches?
Note: The opener rail is usually the lowest obstruction and we need to make sure our door will be able to turn over in the opening and run underneath the rail. If there is no opener and we plan to install one, measure Floor to Lowest Obstruction and subtract 3” for the rail.
Required Photos
One picture can be worth a thousand words... if it’s a good picture. Pictures need to be a full view of the door; clear, with the lighting as good as possible. Please remove vehicles before taking photos.
Stand as far back in the garage as possible and take photo straight on
Close the door so we can see the spring line and header
Include back hangers and opener (or take additional photos)
