Watershed STEM in the Schoolyard

15x15 Activity Bin

Watershed STEM in the Schoolyard 15 X 15 Activity Bin is designed to engage students in place-based learning about the Great Lakes with minimal preparation and materials. It was created with afterschool educators in mind, but can be used by any formal or informal educator.

Group leaders can follow activity scripts for fifteen short, hands-on activities focused on water quality and protection. After learning how their community connects to the Great Lakes, students complete a stewardship project at their site.

The materials for activities and stewardship projects are included in the Watershed STEM bin. Additional activities and resources for each activity are included on the Activity Resources Page.

These activities are best suited for students in grades 3-8 but can be adapted for older or younger students.

Teachers, afterschool educators, and informal educators can borrow a bin for free for up to 3 weeks.

The Watershed STEM in the Schoolyard Program was supported by an eeBLUE Watershed STEM Education Partnership grant through

the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the North American Association for Environmental Education.
