About Reinstein Woods
Reinstein Woods is a nature preserve with 292-acres containing forests, ponds, and wetlands, surrounded by the suburbs of Cheektowaga. Trails are self guided and open from dusk till dawn, and the education center is open Monday through Saturday. Reinstein Woods provides educational programs for school groups, and free programs for the public every week alongside other events such as our annual Fall Festival and Artisan Market.
In September of 1986, the Victor Reinstein estate donated the land to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), and formally established the "Dr. Victor Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve." The preserve continues to be owned and operated by the DEC, with support from the nonprofit group, the “Friends of Reinstein Woods," established in 2003.
