The goal of this program is to connect Cheektowaga High School students with their local environment, with leaders in their environmental community, to expose them to job opportunities, and empower them to act as leaders in their community and as mentors to younger students.
As a participant, you will meet and learn from environmental organizations through field trips and guest speakers, learn nature observation skills through exploring Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, and every week, you'll collect scientific data from Scajaquada Creek, to be shared with community officials. Toward the end of the program, you will lead elementary school students in outdoor activities and have the opportunity to share your knowledge with your family and community members.
This program pays minimum wage, currently $15.5/hr. Participants under 18 must have their working papers.
After the initial paperwork is completed and processed, employees will be paid every two weeks.
The fall term of this program will run from October 15-November 19, and we will meet every Wednesday from 1-5pm.
Transportation will be provided to and from Cheektowaga Central High School.
Who can apply?
The program is open to juniors and seniors, ages 16-19, who are attending Cheektowaga High School. You also must have either U.S citizenship or a green card in order to participate, this is so that we can pay every student.
