Screening

Regional School District No. 4 offers developmental screenings to all three and four-year-old children who reside in Chester, Deep River, and Essex. The purpose of our screenings is to:

*(In accordance with federal regulations, local school districts are responsible for the location, identification, and evaluation of all children from birth through twenty-one who require special education and related services).

Our screenings are conducted in a play format. Members of our Preschool Team both engage and observe during play activities and presented tasks. Activities and tasks and parent interviews target fine motor, gross motor, communication, school readiness, and social skills.  This is NOT an evaluation, but the staff will provide feedback on general impressions of your child’s development. Should concerns be noted, they will be discussed with you and a future re-screening or evaluation may be recommended. Screenings typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour. During this time, parents have the opportunity to meet with our Preschool Coordinator to learn more about The Collaborative Preschool and the other preschools in our district.

If you have concerns about your child's development, feel free to contact us to set up a screening appointment.
