First aid should be administered immediately. 911 should be called if needed and resident should be transported to his/her physician or to the emergency room if indicated. After the child’s immediate medical needs have been addressed, contact Refuge House immediately. If hospital admission is ordered, the child’s legal guardian/DFPS worker must give approval before the admission occurs.

Notify Refuge House immediately. If the situation requires immediate medical intervention, transport the child to a medical facility continuing attempts to contact Refuge House. If hospital admission is ordered, the child’s legal guardian/DFPS worker must give approval before the admission occurs.

Heating and Air Conditioning become critical equipment when temperatures inside the home become inhospitable and/or dangerous for children in care. If one of these systems becomes inoperable, the main concern is the safety and well-being of children in the home. If the internal temperature in the home is lower than 60 degrees, or higher than 90 degrees for a period of 24 hours or more, then the family/agency must make alternative arrangements for the children in care. The first option would be for the family to find alternative arrangements, hotel or motel, until the equipment is repaired and internal temperature in the home is within appropriate levels. The second option is to place the child/ren in alternative care until the issue is resolved. In no instance should a child be kept in a home for more than 24 hours where the internal temperature of the home is lower than 60 degrees or higher than 90 degrees.

In the event of a breach of sensitive data within a Refuge House data system, the Agency will follow the procedures outlined in the MIS and HIPAA Policy and Procedure in the section titled POLICY FOR THE RESPONSE TO A SUSPECTED OR CONFIRMED DATA BREACH.
