Air raid shelters were safe places for people to go if there was the threat of a bomb. There were three types of shelters, they were Anderson shelters, Morrison shelters and Public shelters. Cellars, basements and underground stations were used for people to take shelter. Some people had local community shelters made of metal and steel that were sunken into the ground that they had to hide in. Lots of different types were used and sometimes they would not work and the bombs would kill the people in theĀ people hiding inside the shelter. o matter what you were doing, if an air raid siren went off you had to go into your shelter.
You only had to go into your air raid shelter if there was an air raid siren that went off. Air raid sirens were situated around your town or an ARP warden went around and rattled and air raid siren and that would let families know that is was time to hide because a bomb might drop on your house.
