DARREN NORDLIE

Iron Barrel Stove

A family gathered in their wooden cabin,
dad tired from cutting down trees,
he holds playing cards in hands that
built the walls surrounding the kitchen table
and iron barrel stove,
more than their source of heat,
igniter of cards games,
of parents and children
play and being played,
of wooden floor stomps,
of hearing animals romp,
of all their warm sepia memories made.

This stove once stood in the Redmond Trading Company, now the location of Half Price Books.
