7th & 8th Grade Elective
A new offering this year, the Graphic Novels class is a semester-long elective available to 7th and 8th graders at RMS. The class is divided into two sections; Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday which allows students the opportunity to explore other elective offerings during the week. This class is project-based and is a great choice for students who love to read, write, draw and explore the creative process. Much of the work in this class is done independently and is student-driven allowing for choice and focus on individual interests. The main projects we work on throughout the semester focus on reading graphic novels and learning how to look at them differently than traditionally-formatted texts, researching the people who create graphic novels and learning about their process, as well as directly participating in the process of writing a short story and translating it into graphic novel format with illustrations and design elements. As the graphic novel format continues to popularize, this class aims to explore how reading and creating with visual components can help us make connections and share words in a unique way.
