Course Overview: Seventh-grade math builds students’ confidence and fluency with proportional reasoning, algebraic thinking, and rational numbers. Learners explore ratios, percentages, linear relationships, and operations with integers and fractions through real‑world problem‑solving. They begin working with expressions, equations, and inequalities while strengthening their ability to interpret and create graphs. Throughout the course, students develop mathematical reasoning, communicate their thinking clearly, and apply concepts to practical situations in science, technology, and everyday life.
Essential Questions
How can you use geometry to solve problems?
How can you determine proportionality between two varying quantities?
How can percentages describe the change in a quantity?
How can you use samples to make inferences about a population?
How are operations with integers related to operations with rational numbers?
Why is it beneficial to rewrite expressions in different forms?
How can equations and inequalities be used to solve everyday problems?
How can probability be used to predict future events?
Course Materials
Notebook with lined paper
Two different colors of pens, pencils
Calculator (graphing calculator NOT necessary)
Text: Reveal Math, Course 2 (McGraw Hill, 2025)
Course Activities: small group work, whole-class instruction and discussion, guided practice, hands-on learning
Types of Assignments: homework, quizzes, unit tests
Assignment Values
25% Homework
25% Quizzes
50% Tests
Homework: Students will have daily homework assignments Students are expected to complete homework on time and to the best of their ability. Students may redo all or part of any homework assignment one time; they will receive an additional half-credit for all corrected work. For example, if a student initially scored a 0/5 on a homework question and re-submitted the question with a correct answer, the student would receive 2.5 points. Homework must be redone and submitted by the following class period.
Quizzes: Students will take one to three quizzes per unit to assess their progress in understanding the topic. Students will not be permitted to retake quizzes for credit.
Tests: Students will take three to four tests per quarter. As with homework, students may redo all or part of a test one time; they will receive an additional half-credit for all corrected work. Unit tests must be redone and submitted within 48 hours.
Late or Missing Work: Students will receive a 50% deduction for late homework. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances. Missing work will be accepted for up to three days after the original due date; students will receive a 0% after that time.
Extra Credit: The school’s academic policy does not allow for extra credit.
