With World Read Allowed Day coming up on the 1st of February it is a great day for us to celebrate the joy of reading with all our Junior Preparatory children. Reading is a crucial skill that plays a vital role in the academic success of children in the junior preparatory phase. Not only does reading help children develop their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills, but it also opens the door to a world of knowledge and imagination. Children who read regularly have a better chance of excelling academically and have better chances of success in all aspects of school. Reading helps children to develop their language skills and improves their ability to understand and analyse texts. Additionally, reading helps children to improve their memory, concentration, and attention span, which are important skills for learning. Furthermore, reading has a positive impact on the emotional and mental well-being of children. It helps children to relax and de-stress and provides an escape to another world. Encourage your child to read regularly and explore different types of literature. This will not only help them to excel in school but will also benefit them throughout their lives.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss.
The Grade 2's have been busy this week with writing their first creative writing piece.
They were introduced to punctuation such as capital letters, full stops, and exclamation marks throughout the last couple of weeks, in order to prepare them for their writing pieces.
This week they had to select their favourite zoo animal. They were asked to write a few sentences about their animal, such as what it looks like, what it eats, and a fun fact about the animal.
The children worked really hard and tried to ensure they had as many adjectives in their writing piece.
