"Once Upon a Broken Heart" by Jennifer Niven
If you love fantasy, you’ll love this story. Full of twists and turns (and plenty of magic), Niven builds a world that the reader can dive into.
Written from the point of view of Evangeline, it uncovers her journey through a magical, storytale world. Readers can relate to her willingness to do anything for the ones she loves, although it sometimes can be frustrating. One of the things I enjoyed most about her character is that she is not perfect. She messes up (badly) but still continues on.
Play opposite to her, Jacks is the kind of character that provides a level of mystery, urging the reader to continue reading to find out more about his story. While appearing apathetic to Evangeline's situation, the reader quickly learns that there's more to the "Prince of Hearts" than meets the eye.
With strong lead characters and a thrilling plot, Niven builds a world that pulls the reader in and runs with them.
