Writing
If your child needs more help with correct letter formation, please visit the letter formation page.
If they are struggling to hold a pencil in order to write correctly, please visit our fine motor page.
Some of our favorite writing activities to do at home:
Have your child write their name and their family members names
Write notes and letters to friends and family
Write or copy environmental print.
Writing names off of food labels (Cereal labels, vegetable can labels, etc.)
Write down words they see around the house
Writing the grocery list (or crossing it off while at the store. We just got apples, which word on the list would be apples?)
Labeling pictures they illustrate
writing stories or books at home
In kindergarten we are working towards Phonetic Spelling. Spelling work phonetically (how they sound) is age and developmentally appropriate. As your child progresses and learns more, they will start to learn more spelling and phonetic rules to help them learn how to spell correctly.
Here are some examples we found that explain the stages that a child goes through when writing.
