Frequently Asked Questions
We are only at school for a short amount of time, but we do like to include time for a small snack. Because we have such a short amount of time we ask that you limit the snack you send to one small item, with the understanding that anything not finished will be sent back home. We have about 8 minutes for snack – so your child will not have enough time to each a full lunch.
We do have a drinking fountain in our room and encourage the students to get a drink of water at this time. (We teach them to drink from the TOP of the rainbow, and not to cover their mouth on top of the drinking fountain. )
If possible, please write your child’s name on their snack or container or bag. If you send a baggie of goldfish, writing your child’s name on the baggie is a tremendous help when we have multiple bags of fish on the same day. If sending just a granola bar - even writing their name on the packaging helps a ton.
This year the children will not be eating snack at a table and will be sitting on their spots on the floor. Because of this we are asking that your child does not bring anything that will spill or leave a large amount of crumbs. (Yummy banana bread - I'm talking to you!) Yogurt cups, fruit cups, fruit or veggie dip, and basically anything that can only be eaten with a utensil will be tricky. In a regular year we could easily clean up a spilled fruit cup or pudding cup off of the table. Sadly at this time, we do not have that luxury. We know this limits what you can send in for your child for their snack, and we appreciate your understanding at this time.
We have quite a few friends this year with allergies.
Please do NOT send your child with the following for their snack:
Any kind of nuts
Peanuts
Walnuts
Cashews
Pistachios
Peanut butter is also not acceptable.
Even though we do not share our snack with others, traces of these nuts on tables, chairs, and other places in our room could prove to be very dangerous for some friends in our class. Please find other snacks to send with your child each day. Since we take the safety of our students very seriously, we will not allow any snack with those nuts to be consumed in class.
We will sing or chant to the birthday child and make a special book that they get to take home a little bit later.
Weekend birthdays are usually celebrated the Friday before.
Half birthdays are celebrated for summer birthdays; I will let you know when your child’s half-birthday is coming up.
To celebrate his/her birthday, your child may do one of the following:
bring a favorite book to read to the class during snack OR
bring a small (non-crumbly) store-bought snack that is individually wrapped, or a non-consumable treat to share with the class. This year we sadly are going to ask for no cupcakes or donuts. This year the students will be eating snack at their spots on the rug, and crumbs from those will just be too hard to clean up after. We recommend something like a small bag of skittles or something like you would get at Halloween. You could look over the fun size or snack size area of treats and see what your child likes that also looks manageable and fun.
We are so sorry we are having to be so picky this year. Thanks for being so flexible with us as we all navigate this new and very different school year.
8:15 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
8:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
**All classroom doors at the school open at 8:00 a.m. In kindergarten we prefer for the children to be here as close to 8:00 as possible.
During this time, we plan a few developmentally appropriate activities for a free-choice time where we work on social and emotional skills, as well as fine motor skills through play.
Reagan Academy doors open at 7:45 am everyday. Students will be directed to the cafeteria/gym between 7:45 – 8:00.
There is a free breakfast program for all students starting at 7:45 a.m.
Pick up will take place in front of the kindergarten doors on the Northwest side of the building at 11:00 a.m. Monday - Thursday and 10:15 a.m. on Fridays.
Please stay in your vehicle as you pull around the drive through in front of the school, and be ready to roll your window down to tell us your child’s name.
We will have 4 colored cones set up in front of our kindergarten doors. As you pull up a teacher will ask your child’s name and then report it to the other teacher who will help direct your child to a colored cone. Your child will stay at that cone until you pull up and your vehicle has stopped.
We will not be helping children get buckled. If your child does not know how to buckle themselves, please have them get in the car and pull forward out of the pick up line to the blue zone (past the crosswalk). Then get out and help your child get buckled in safely. Buckling independently is a great self-help skill for your child to practice and master.
The first few days may take a little bit longer to get everyone in their cars, but just like all the things we do at school, the more we practice, the better (and faster) we get! It will also take us teachers a little bit of time to try to memorize which child goes to which parent in which vehicle; thank you for your patience in this endeavor!
If your child is not picked up by 11:10 am (10:25 am on Fridays), we will take them to the front office to wait for you to come.

Reagan is split into four zones based on where you live to help with the flow and ease of pick up at the very end of the day. We have four Kindergarten teachers, and each of us is in charge of the kindergarteners for one zone.
We take our kindergartens out a few minutes early, to beat the rush out of the door. Many kindergarten parents like to get to the zones and be able to pick up their children when we first get out to the zones.
If you are unsure from which zone you should pick-up, please let me know.
