School Safety and Security

The Readington Township Board of Education and Administration, in coordination with law enforcement, the Office of Emergency Management, and others are committed to ensuring that our facilities are secure and that our students and staff are safe. We have taken many steps to improve our safety practices, programs, and procedures. The safety and security of our students are our highest priority.

 Our district has a comprehensive safety and security plan that is updated yearly and as needed by all stakeholders. In 2020, our plan was audited by the  New Jersey Department of Education's Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning. The plan covers crisis management, emergency protocols, and continuity of operations and reflects the common and unique needs of educators, students, families, and the greater community. The plan also outlines how all individuals in the school community will be prepared to react to various types of crises, including environmental, facilities, and human-related emergencies. School staff and students in each of our schools practice fire and security drills monthly, and parents and guardians are notified when a security drill has been completed, as per NJ State Law 18A:41-1. 

While the district has programs and practices in place to ensure the safety of our students, and your children, the partnership between school, home, and the community is essential to providing a safe and secure environment. We encourage everyone to be vigilant and report any inappropriate social media and online interactions to school personnel. Even the slightest issue that you may feel would affect the safety of schools, students, and faculty members could make a difference.
