Background
If you have students in need of comprehension intervention, look no further than Visualizing and Verbalizing, a sensory-based program developed by Nanci Bell that is grounded in research and backed by educators and students alike! I personally have used this program in my intermediate-level intervention classroom for 7 years and can testify firsthand to its effectiveness, particularly with reluctant readers who are drawn to its focus on readers using their imagination to faciliate comprehension.
If you are new to Visualizing and Verbalizing, take a look at the Google Slides presentation below for an overview. I have also included a link to the manual here and below (available on Amazon for a reasonable price). Then, read through the two excerpts from the manual. Chapter 2 provides an overview of the research base of the program, while Chapter 4 provides an overview of the method at the heart of this approach. I have found that the approach presented in Chapter 4 can be easily tailored to texts in Parts 9 and 10 of a Wilson Reading System lesson. Feel free to contact me with further questions!
