Human Impact on Resources
Duration: 11:31
Synopsis: This video looks at three specific examples where humans have significantly impacted various resources that have directly affected the habitats of various animals. The three examples in this video are the Deep Horizons Oil Spill, the Amazon Rainforest, and The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This hostess of the video does a nice job of cueing questions into your class in each of these topics as you watch the video.
Marine Debris
Duration: 5:13
Synopsis: This video focuses upon one specific means by which humans are affecting many marine animals: plastic debris. The video addresses what plastic debris is, how it has ended up in our oceans, and what we can do to prevent increases to the amount of debris in the future. The vocabulary in this video would be considered suitable for Science 2, and it will hopefully have students begin to question how they can help to decrease their impact on these environments.
One Earth
Duration: 4:26
Synopsis: While the real idea behind this video might need some assistance in grade two, One Earth starts out with some incredible clips of videos looking at animal and plant life around the world. It then migrates to looking at some of the imapcts that humans have had on the environment; many of these landscape shots are similar in appearance to the ones involving nature (without humans) in the first part of the video.
Our Biggest Trash Catch Ever
Duration: 3:08
Synopsis: This video pairs well with the previous video "Marine Debris" to really show students how humans are working hard to try to diminish the degree to which they affect marine environments. The video walks the students through how plastic trash was captured from marine environments and how similar cleanups in the future may continue to increase in scale and size.
The Real Reason Dodo Birds Went Extinct
Duration: 5:31
Synopsis: This video is a very simple explanation of one of the most famous human-caused extinctions. The video discusses how dodos evolved to have no fear of humans, and upon discovery of the island with the dodos, why this resulted in their rapid extinction.
Animals and Offspring
Duration: 7:23
Synopsis: This educational clip explores how different animals—birds, fish, mammals, and more—care for their young. It illustrates varied parenting strategies, such as feeding, protecting, and teaching offspring essential skills for survival.
The Cutest Baby Animals on the Farm
Duration: 10:26
Synopsis: This video walks the students a quick introduction, and then roughly a minute about each baby animal of the animals that we stereotype as belonging on a farm. This video clearly filmed far more video coverage than they knew what to do with, and as a result you get lots of nice background music to keep your students occupied while they watch all the video coverage of these various animals.
The Cutest Baby Animals You've Ever Seen
Duration: 7:05
Synopsis: Are you tired of listening to narrators, and wondering when you could become one? This video is a great chance. This is a video that contains roughly 20 different infants from around the world. Each baby animal is introduced with mention of its species and where it is found, but after that is put on the screen, there is nothing but background music.
Exploring The Adorable World of Baby Animals
Duration: 39:01
Synopsis: Though a runtime of 39:01 may seem a little lengthy, if you take a look at this video you will see that this time is broken up into short chapters for each animal; you might make use of these chapters in your class over a week or two.
The Suprising Facts About Buffalo
Duration: 9:58
Synopsis: This video, though containing some vocabulary that may need explanation in a Science 2 class (e.g. "ecosystem," "wallows," and "arduous" to name a few), is an excellent story both of the importance of bison for the survival of Indigenous populations for the last 12 000 years, but also the cutural importance of bison as well. Note: To avoid confusion in this video, be sure to mention that "buffalo" and "bison" are synonyms; the two terms are used interchangeably throughout this video.
Day and Night Explained in One Minute
Duration: 1:00
Synopsis: This video gives a quick explanation behind the idea of the rotation of the earth on its axis creating the effect of a day.
Earth's Rotation and Revolution
Duration: 4:00
Synopsis: This video starts out by looking at rotation, and explains to students why we have the effect of day and night. Once it has this established, it discusses the idea of the revolution around the sun.
Earth's Rotation and Revolution
Duration: 6:35
Synopsis: Though the title of this video may seem a bit redundant, there certainly are differences between these two videos. One key piece that this video focuses on that links well with Science 1 is the idea of the earth's tilt, and how it relates to seasons. This video gives a nice visual representation of these two words that are somewhat similar.
