Math

In grade 3 we focus on numbers to 1 000, building mental math skills, adding and subtracting three digit numbers, skip counting/patterning, and an introduction to multiplication & division.

*Represents, describes and compares numbers in a variety of ways (concretely, pictorially and symbolically) (to 1000 by June)

*Demonstrates an understanding of place value of numbers (to 1000 by June)

*Counts verbally forwards and backwards by 5’s, 10’s, 100’s using any starting point (to 1000 by June)

Counts forwards and backwards by multiples of 3, 4 and 25

*Understands and recalls addition and subtraction basic facts (to 18 by June)

*Demonstrates an understanding of addition using 1, 2, and 3 digit numbers using objects, pictures and numbers (to 1000 by June)

*Demonstrates an understanding of subtraction using 1, 2, and 3 digit numbers using objects, pictures and numbers (to 1000 by June)

Understands and recalls basic multiplication facts (to 5x5 by June)

Understands and recalls basic division facts (to 5x5 by June)

Demonstrates an understanding of fractions as part of a whole

PATTERNS AND RELATIONS

Represents, describes and extends increasing and decreasing patterns

Solves one-step addition and subtraction equations involving a symbol to represent an unknown number

SHAPE AND SPACE

Understands perimeter of 2-D shapes

Describes characteristics of 2-D and 3-D shapes

Understands relationship of seconds, minutes, hours, days and months

Demonstrates an understanding of measurement using appropriate units


STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

Uses and creates charts, graphs and diagrams to find, explain and solve math problems (Ongoing)

If students sign on to their school accounts, and then go to the above Zorbits game link, they simply log-in with google account log-in link. This is an excellent program for practicing the math they need to know while enjoying a game.
