Parent Expectations

In order for a student to be a successful virtual learner, a true partnership must be established between the parent, student, and the teacher. Virtual teachers will be communicating regularly with parents.

As a parent, you are an integral part of your child’s education. Although each RVA class is led by a certified district teacher who provides regular online instruction, students may need additional guidance and support from their parents.

Responsibilities of the parent are outlined below. These expectations must be agreed upon and followed in order for the child to participate in virtual learning at RCSD.

  • Parents are expected to maintain open lines of communication with teachers and communicate any concerns or questions to the teacher.

  • Parents are expected to regularly check their email.

  • Parents are expected to set up and maintain a daily work schedule for the student in accordance with the synchronous and asynchronous class schedule.

  • Parents are expected to regularly check Otus for assignments.

  • Parents are expected to attend the student-led academic updates.

  • Parents are expected to set up a space for optimal learning for their student.

  • Parents are expected to reinforce behavior expectations for the whole group, small group, and individual meetings with the teacher.

  • Parents are expected to ensure students have appropriate supervision and the necessary materials for live learning and independent activities.
