I created this page to recognize those individuals who remain actively engaged helping others overcome challenging times by combating adversity through philanthropy and altruism. Here, I will also highlight those community heroes whose work behind the scenes is marked by unwavering courage, outstanding achievements in the community and their noble qualities that help change lives. To carefully spot one of those altruistic heroes, I've looked for evidence of their feats of ingenuity and their disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others beyond their the call of duty.
Marie Rice, Kindergarten Teacher
First, I'd like to recognize my colleague and friend kindergarten teacher at Pinnacle School #35, Marie Rice, for spearheading a schoolwide campaign to provide computers for all children at school. Marie has already acquired about ten donated computers for her class which she refurbished and personally delivered to her students' homes. She has also volunteered to refurbish any new donated computers that other teachers receive to facilitate their immediate use by our children.
Marie, because of your unparalleled devotion, active leadership, ingenuity, and altruistic spirit as a teacher, you have earned the title of "Hero". Personally, from one teacher to another I want to thank you for paving the way for the rest of us!
Sincerely,
O. Mathews
I spotted a true community "Hero" this week from the Rochester Police Department, Officer Moses Robinson. Since I am unfamiliar with some of the city neighborhoods, I asked my friend Officer Robinson for help finding my students' address across the city safely. Without hesitation he agreed to drive me to each of my students' home. As a result, thanks to Officer Robinson we drove from 1:30 pm to 6:45 pm across the city delivering bags of materials and supplies to all of my 23 students.
That day Officer Robinson was determined to drive me to every single home on my list so that the children could have some learning instruments at home during this COVID 19 crisis. Hence, committed wholeheartedly to that mission he did not stop at the end his workday. Instead he proceeded to drive for four hours plus nonstop with the only goal of helping me deliver instructional bags to the children.
Now, it is my turn to say thank you Moses! I admire your passion and commitment to help, serve, and protect the community members of the city of Rochester. Thanks to heroes like you we can rest better knowing that our students in the city will be safe, protected, and cared for.
Sincerely,
O. Mathews
