What are mammals?
All mammals...
* are vertebrates that have a spine bone
* have lungs to breathe
* drink milk from their mother
* are warm blooded to be able to regulate
their body temperature
* have hair or fur on their body
* have ways to get water, food, and shelter
How are mammals adapted to the environment?
* they live in different kinds of habitats (ocean, desert, rainforest, arctic).
* they have ways to survive in their habitat because their bodies can adapt to live in a cold or hot environment and some can even camouflage to blend in.
What is happening to some species of mammals?
* people are destroying animal habitats like forests to build homes and roads so they die.
* they become endangered when there's only a few of the specie left.
* marine mammals are endangered by water pollution, dams, and fishing nets.
What are people doing to help save the animals?
* people are working together to safe habitats.
* governments worldwide have setup reserves or protected lands where animals can live safely, passed laws like the Endangered Species Act to protect animals and plants that are endangered.
