Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the 2020 Leadership Summit! Thank you for your commitment to prepare for a safe return to school. I want to express my gratitude to all of you who have shown incredible flexibility, patience, and resiliency ever since our daily lives changed with the arrival of COVID-19 in March.
You have been working tirelessly to create a successful opening of schools in September while keeping the health and safety of our students as a top priority. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us in some way, but we will continue to ensure that it does not interfere with the achievement of our students.
The learning experience for students has changed, and despite challenges, you are leading the way with forward thinking and creativity to give students the 21st century skills that will make them well prepared for college and the workforce.
Please know that a lot of work has gone into making sure you are safe when we return to school buildings in September. There are several important topics that will be discussed during Leadership Summit to manage the care of you and our students.
I look forward to working with all of you for a successful 2020 – 21 school year.
Sincerely,
Lesli Myers-Small

Play is even mentioned multiple times in the NYS Next Generation Standards. Which "was an intentional effort to remain in the developmentally appropriate parameters that do not pit play against academic learning."
