In Third Grade, students work on a cross-curricular Ecosystems Unit. During this unit, students learn how to use important researching tools and strategies. They use these tools and strategies during an Informational Writing Unit, in which, students select an Arctic Animal of interest, select subtopics that apply to their animal of choice, research the animal and take notes in their own words, and use graphic organizers to synthesize the information and form multiple drafted paragraphs. When they are done drafting their paragraphs, they begin revising and editing. Finally, the type and publish their final piece for display in the hall and to join their peers in a published class book of Life in the Arctic Tundra. *To see an example of this book, please see the Ecosystems & Life Cycles section under the "Science" tab in the "Curriculum" drop-down tab above.
