We will…
Be immersed in the city's rich culture, exploring iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and Trafalgar Square.
Watch eight fantastic plays and musicals in seven days.
Enjoy world-class performances in the West End, from longstanding classics to contemporary productions.
Work with a world-renowned theatre company, learning new skills in workshops and how to create a compelling and impactful “Theatre in Education” performance to develop and perform for our school and wider community later in the school year.
In short, we are in for a chance to immerse ourselves in the enchanting world of theatre as both audience members and creative participants, all amidst the buzz of the magnificent city of London.
Sample Itinerary
Below is a SAMPLE itinerary for the week. The shows in red will no longer be running in November. However, this sample, which includes shows that are running in May and June 2024, will give you an idea of the quality of theatre you will be able to experience on the trip. Activities in black will be available for us to experience in November.
Day 1:
Morning: Arrive at London Heathrow. Bus to central London to check into the hotel.
Afternoon: Matinee Performance of “Dr Strangelove” at the Noël Coward Theatre starring Steve Coogan.
Evening: Early dinner at Covent Garden, market shopping and walk back to the hotel for a well-earned rest!
Day 2:
Morning: Guided tour of Shakespeare's Globe.
Afternoon: Globe Performance of "Much Ado About Nothing", groundling style.
Evening: An Immersive (explosive) Theatre experience - "The Gunpowder Plot"
Day 3:
Morning: Walking Tour - take in the culture of the city at the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, The Mall and London’s iconic Trafalgar Square
Afternoon: Performance at the Gielgud Theatre of “Opening Night” starring Sheridan Smith with music by Rufus Wainwright.
Evening: Dinner and National Theatre Performance of “Charles Dickens Our Mutual Friend” by Ben Powers with music by PJ Harvey
Day 4:
Morning: Victoria and Albert Museum Visit with a guided tour of the Costume exhibition
Afternoon: Lunch and Matinee Show of the Musical, “Everyone is Talking about Jamie” at the Peacock Theatre.
Evening: Dinner in Soho’s Chinatown followed by a visit to Wyndham’s Theatre to see “Long Day's Journey into Night” starring Brian Cox.
Day 5:
Morning: Theatre in Education (TIE) Performance
Afternoon: ‘Creating a TIE project’ workshop, travelling open top city hopper bus.
Evening: Dinner, a visit to the Oxford Street Light Festival followed by a visit to Theatre Royal Haymarket to see “Picture of Dorian Gray” with Sarah Snook.
Day 6:
Morning: Pack and check out of hotel. South Bank Walk, London Eye and a Backstage Tour of the National Theatre.
Afternoon: Explore the enchanting “Warner Bros Studios - The Making of Harry Potter” for a magical experience.
Evening: Travel to the airport for the return journey to Hong Kong.
Day 7:
Arrive back in HK for approx 5 pm
CAS Information
During the week, students will participate in a full-day workshop on creating engaging and educational theatre for others. Using the skills developed in this workshop and while drawing inspiration from the performances seen throughout the trip, students will apply this experience to research educational needs in our local HK community and create a Theatre in Education performance and workshop on their return to Hong Kong.
The students will deliver their workshop and performance to their target audience(s) in February 2025.
