Would you enjoy working with children with a variety of special needs? Are you ready for a challenge?

Here students will work with primary or secondary students with severe to profound learning difficulties. This is a very rewarding and interesting week because you will be interacting with and assisting with students, helping to create resources and you will have the opportunity to work alongside the class teacher, a team of education assistants and members of the therapy team. It is an opportunity to learn so much about education and to contribute to a very special school.

Students may have an opportunity to work with one of the school’s therapists in physio, art/music therapy, speech therapy or occupational therapy.

You will support all aspects of ‘the learning journey’ and this may include accompanying classes on school trips. Morning breaks and lunch breaks are agreed with the class teacher and may be brief as the school is a very busy place and no-one sits for long! 

You MUST have a high level of communication skills and be a good communicator as well as a patient and caring approach, and an enthusiasm for working with people. On placement at JCSRS, you will be expected to work from 8.45am – 3.30pm with the possibility of staying beyond for after-school meetings if appropriate.
