Hong Kong Golf CAS Week, Kau Sai Chau 2023

Golf is so popular simply because it is the best game in the world at which to be bad.

~A.A. Milne

Golf is a fun, healthy and challenging sport. It is one of the most popular pastimes in the world as it allows players to compete equally with each other no matter their ability, gender, or age. Golf is also a very social, interesting, and complex game. Participants not only need to learn a variety of new precise physical skills, they will also learn about etiquette, fair play and self discipline.

The HK golf option for EMB@RC week 2024 will be at Kau Sai Chau, the public golf course in Sai Kung. This activity is ideal for beginners as full instruction will be given, starting with the basics. More experienced players will be able to benefit from honing their technique. All you need is an enthusiastic desire to learn to play the game. Oh, and a golf glove (cost approx. $120).

Participants will receive up to 4 hours of tuition per day by qualified teaching professionals at the golf course. Students will learn skills in all aspects of the game, including chipping, putting, sand shots, short and long irons and driving. Tuition will take place on the driving range and specialized practice areas, as well as on the course.

We’ll meet in the morning at the ferry pier in Sai Kung; the golf club pier is next to the public piers, opposite the Turtle by the Sea restaurant. Drop off will be at the same place. Students should make their own arrangements to travel to and from Sai Kung.

We hope that players will have the chance to play on the North Course in the afternoon in the later stages of the week. We try and make sure that all students get as much time on the course as possible.

The cost for this activity includes transportation from Sai Kung pier to the golf course by ferry, golf lessons, and green fees. Lunch is not included in the price but can be bought at the clubhouse. Alternatively, students can bring their own packed lunch however this cannot be brought into the clubhouse restaurant.

During the morning, we started with the usual drills and warm up on the driving range. After an hour or so, we went to the short game to practice chipping and putting, the coach set up a game which simulates an actual game, requiring us to use a combination of chipping and putting to get into a hole with as little shots as possible. This helped with getting used to actually chipping in an actual game, since usually we would simply be practicing technique through repeating.

During the afternoon, we got to go back to the holes we played yesterday. There are noticeable improvements with a lot more accuracy in shops and less balls being lost, as everyone has mostly smoothed out issues with their techniques and could move through the courses much faster.
