Expectations for students during distance learning:
Be on time.
If you are late, apologise to the teacher with a reason in a private message.
Video camera to be on for group/class sessions.
If your teacher allows Zoom backgrounds, choose your background before entering the Zoom room, and then leave it for the session. Make sure that you do not disappear behind the background.
Use your first and last name only to show on your Zoom.
Only use the chat function when asked to by your teacher.
Be kind and thoughtful in all your interactions with others.
Show your face to the camera and be attentive.
Remain in each session until your teacher ends the session.
Attend the sessions from your class teacher and your specialist teachers.
As usual, in class, actively listen to one another and take turns to speak.
Use respectful language at all times.
Avoid the temptation to interfere with the video and audio settings of others.
Where deadlines have been shared with you from your teachers, make sure you submit your learning so that teachers can give timely feedback to you. Work shared after deadlines may not receive feedback.
Guidelines for parents
Teachers will usually be available to students from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday - Friday. Please be considerate in making the decision to contact teachers or have your child post/share learning outside of these hours. This will help to ensure more balance for your child.
Ensure sound / video are working on devices before children use them for learning. If you need any help please contact the Red Door (helpdesk@rchk.edu.hk).
If video is not on and no clear reason is given as to why, the participant will be removed from the meeting.
Encourage and guide your child in terms of video conference etiquette - see the guidelines for students.
Monitor and support your child to find a healthy balance in terms of screen time. While we will continue to consider ways of learning for our students that don't involve the use of screens, the nature of distance learning is that it does rely heavily on the use of technology.
Ensure that all family members are wearing appropriate attire before connecting to a video conference and enabling the camera.
Attendance is expected at every live classroom and single subject session, and attendance will be taken formally for these lessons. We appreciate that students may experience WiFi connectivity issues at home. However, please be aware that teachers will only be actively monitoring the waiting room for the first five minutes of each lesson. After this, they will be fully focused on engaging with students’ learning in the Zoom room. They will try to admit students who join late or who have to rejoin the class as quickly as possible.
