DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE
There are two ways to apply for a position in ASB for the school year: Elected or appointed. To obtain an elected position, students must run/campaign for a spot in their Class Cabinet OR ASB Cabinet (if they fulfill the requirements), and be voted in by the majority of the Student Body. To obtain an appointed position in ASB, students must interview for a position of their choice, wherein they are selected for a position by the Interview Committee. Appointed positions hold various responsibilities and events that they are in charge of.
Please see below for the various roles in ASB that are available and the responsibilities that are held under each role.
ELECTED POSITIONS
ASB COUNCIL CABINET (ELECTED POSITIONS)President: This position presides over ASB and Cabinet positions.
VICE PRESIDENT: He/she shall assist the President in every way possible. He/she shall assume the duties of ASB Council President during his/her temporary or permanent incapacity to serve in office. He/she shall be the Chairperson of the Student Congress as specified in Article XVII, Section III. He/she shall also share the responsibilities of the school calendar with the Director of Student Activities. He/she shall serve as Historian and shall be responsible for the documenting of noteworthy events and activities during the school year. He/she shall work closely with all Commissioners and Presidents to be sure all events and activities are collected and organized for school use and preservation for the archives. He/she shall report regularly to the ASB Council. SECRETARY/TREASURER: The Secretary/Treasurer shall be in charge of recording all minutes of official and unofficial meetings. They shall organize the meetings agenda prior to the meetings in order to accommodate all who want to participate in the meetings. He/She shall keep record of all typed copies of the minutes and make them available to anyone who wishes to see them. He/She shall supervise and intervene in all financial matters pertaining to the class and ultimately oversee all fundraiser and class activities that involve money. He/She shall oversee the budget and make recommendations on how to disperse funds. He/She shall be responsible for maintaining the records for all finances. He/She shall be responsible for reporting regularly to the class officers. Other duties include maintaining the order in ASB classroom/office. He/She shall be responsible for taking inventory and ordering supplies as approved by council. He/She shall be responsible for all outgoing publications (including bulletin notices, flyers, letters, poster, etc.) He/She shall be responsible for ordering decorations for events as needed and approved by council. He/She shall be responsible for reporting regularly to the class officers.
SECTION TWO: COUNCIL MEMBERS (ELECTED POSITIONS) CLASS REPRESENTATIVES: Class representatives shall organize fundraisers for their class and work to promote class pride and spirit. The President of each class shall focus their work on leading their respective class. They shall be in charge of all activities that the class cabinet, which consists of the President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer, plans, implements and executes for their class. The Vice President shall assist the President in all ways possible and shall act as President in the Presidents temporary or permanent absence. The secretary/treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining all financial records for the class. They shall also be responsible for the collection and depositing of all aforementioned monies. The Secretary/Treasurer shall keep written records of all class meetings (that shall be presented on request to the Director of Student Activities and/or ASB President) and any other important information that may arise.

APPOINTED POSITIONS All appointed positions shall be considered official members of the ASB Council. They must attend all meetings and they have full voting privileges as members of the ASB Council. CO-COMMISSIONERS OF ACTIVITIES: He/she shall also be required to plan and execute various additional activities and assemblies that arise through the school year. They shall work to improve campus spirit and pride, promote a positive attitude on campus and shall work to ensure that there is the maximum participation in all spirit activities. They shall report to the ASB Council no less than once a week. Recommended that this person attend a summer leadership conference. Events include planning the spring and fall rallies. CO-COMMISSIONER OF ATHLETICS: He/she shall be responsible for overseeing all communication with the Athletic Director, secretary, and coaching staff. It shall be their responsibility to keep updated rosters and schedules available for ASB use. He/she must work collaboratively with the Athletic office to keep league records and stats up-to-date. He/she shall oversee the athletic ASB allowance based upon ASB sticker purchases. He/she shall promote sportsmanship (Pursuing Victory with Honor) by distributing and collecting Athletic contracts. He/she shall coordinate with the coaching staff to select and recognize Athletes. The Athletic Commissioner shall work collaboratively with ASB and the other Commissions in the best interest of the student body. Events include 7-on-7 flag football, intramural tournaments for dodgeball, 5-on-5 basketball, and senior recognition night for band, football, dance guard, and cheer. CO-COMMISSIONER OF ENTERTAINMENT: He/She shall work closely with the Commissioner of Activities to oversee all events on and off campus. He/She shall directly oversee the planning and implementation of the junior and senior prom. He/She shall work with the Activities Director to coordinate the selection process for the Prom Committee and all procedures tied to the planning of the prom. He/She shall coordinate all dances sponsored by ASB and oversee the promotion and advertisement of all such events. Events include the junior and senior prom, prom expo, and overseeing the prom committee. Position only available to juniors.
CO-COMMISSIONER OF SCHOOL RELATIONS: He/she shall keep close contact with the staff and advisor of the High Tide, members of the school staff, faculty and administration. He/she shall be the first contact for communication for ASB. He/she shall work with all members of the ASB Council to better inform the general student body, staff, faculty and administration of Redondo Union High School of events and programs. He/she shall make regular reports to the ASB Council. Events include the homecoming halftime parade, the fall and spring blood drives, Battle of the Bands, and ASB elections. CO-COMMISSIONER OF PUBLICITY: He/She shall work closely with officers and all commissioners to support the promotion and advertisement of all events related to RUHS. He/She shall encourage ideas and activities that generate and promote class and school spirit. He/She shall work closely with commissioners to insure student and teacher recognition are acknowledged. Job includes creating sign groups and delegating signs to ASB.
CO-COMMISSIONER OF PUBLICITY OUTREACH: Job includes advertising events through flyers and social media. Oversees use of Instagram pages that promote school spirit. CO-COMMISSIONER OF SPIRIT: He/she shall be in charge of raising school spirit. He/she is therefore in charge of making sure that spirit days and ASB events are successful and well attended. He/she shall be a voting member of the council. He/she shall be appointed by and with the consent of the Associated Student Body Council Cabinet and Faculty Advisor. Events include monthly spirit battles, tallying spirit points, spirit weeks, Carnevil, and Frosty’s Festival. COMMISSIONER OF TECHNOLOGY/ ASB MANAGER: He/she shall maintain and organize all hardware and software in the ASB classroom. He/she shall work the sound system which will include playing appropriate music for any ASB events. He/she shall create/maintain an ASB web page. He/she shall be responsible for maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the ASB classroom. Furthermore they will manage the equipment and supplies of ASB making sure that it is fully functional and replenished. He/she shall be a voting member of the council. He/she shall be appointed by and with the consent of the Associated Student Body Council Cabinet and Faculty Advisor. Job includes working sound system for every ASB event, organizing/cleaning the ASB classroom, and keeping track of ASB accountability (individual goals, goal reflections, PBs, etc.).
SCHOOL BOARD REPRESENTATIVE/PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMISSIONER: This person shall be the student member of the Redondo Beach Unified School District Board of Education as stated in state law. He/she shall serve as a student representative and ASB Council liaison to the Board of Education. He/she shall be considered a full member of the RBUSD Board of Education however, without voting rights as stated in RBUSD Board of Education by-law 9110. He/she shall be appointed by the ASB Appointment Panel. He/she shall gather information from all of the schools within the district in order to present it to the Board of Education. He/she shall have voting rights and report regularly to the ASB Council. He/she shall also keep in close contact with the surrounding community, alumni associations and local newspapers. He/she will be in charge of maintaining the ASB web-page, marquee and display board and any other means of communication that is in the best interest of the student body with the purpose of building school spirit and to help bring the community into the school. Job includes serving on the RBUSD Board of Education and communicating between schools. INTER CLUB COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE: The ICC Rep shall be responsible for organizing club sign ups and encourage ASB sticker purchases. He/she will also be responsible for ICC meetings at which time they will gain information on each campus club, including minutes of meetings and community service hours. He/she shall keep a monthly calendar to record all campus fundraising. All campus fundraising shall go directly through him/her. He/she shall update the ASB Council on campus fundraising weekly. Events include Club Rush and RU Ready night. CLUB FACILITATORS: Duties shall include keeping accurate records of all campus clubs. He/she will be responsible for keeping all campus groups functioning under compliance of school and district rules regarding fundraising, community service, and maintaining active club status. He/she will form a relationship with club presidents and advisors. He/she will be the immediate contact between ASB and clubs. Job includes maintaining club accountability by attending club meetings and working with ICC, overseeing the Club Grant process.
FUNDRAISING: The Fundraising Chairs will work with large scale fundraisers and Community outreach through charity. Events include Winter Formal, donation drives, and other school wide fundraisers.
HEAD HAWKS (NEW POSITION): The Head Hawks shall be a driving force in implementing various forms of School Spirit. Head Hawks will work with The Flock (student spirit section) to create ways to connect students to athletic events, promoting pride and unity. Head Hawks will also work with Spirit Commissioners and Class Councils to help increase school spirit amongst the grade levels. Events include Sporting Events with the Flock and lunch events.
CLASS SPIRIT CHAIRS (NEW POSITION): Will coordinate with Head Hawks, Spirit Commissioners, and class officers to assist in promoting school spirit, pride and a sense of community within their grade level classes. Events include Sporting Events with the Flock and lunch events.
